Customer Review: Another Winner from Hoover! (I th0ought, at first) Summary: 5 Stars
UPDATED REVIEW: AT FIRST I LIKED THIS VACUUM, BUT AFTER HAVING TO TAKE APART THE POWER HEAD AND PUT THE BELT BACK ON DOZENS OF TIMES EACH & EVERY TIME I USED IT, I CALLED HOOVER AND THEY SENT ME A REPLACEMENT MOTOR AND SOME NEW BELTS - APPARENTLY THEY HAD A LOT OF PROBLEMS WITH BELTS COMING OFF, AND THE WAY THE MOTOR SHAFT WAS GROUND WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. WELL, I INSTALLED THE NEW MOTOR AND A NEW BELT AND IT SEEMED TO WORK OK FOR A SHORT TIME. (ABOUT 3 USES!) TODAY I TRIED TO VACUUM MY BEDROOM, AND NOTICED THAT THE BRUSH WASN'T TURNING EXCEPT WHEN I LIFTED IT FROM THE CARPET! THE BELT NO LONGER SLINGS OFF, IT JUST GETS BURNT UP BY THE MOTOR SHAFT SPINNING ALOT FASTER THAN THE BELT/BRUSH CAN MOVE. I AM GOING TO TRY TO REPAIR THE BEARINGS IN THE 30 YEAR OLD HOOVER THAT I STILL HAVE (THAT STILL RUNS REAL GOOD) SO I CAN VACUUM MY BEDROOM. BETWEEN HAVING TO EMPTY THE TINY DUST CUP EVERY 2 MINUTES (MAYBE) AND THE LOUSY, USELESS POWER HEAD, I REALLY WISH I WOULD HAVE SENT THIS STUPID & USELESS MACHINE BACK AND GOT A REFUND!THIS VACUUM IS OK EXCEPT FOR THE HALF-PINT DUST CUP, BUT THE POWER HEAD DESIGN IS TOTAL JUNK, DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY
I bought this Hoover to replace a Eureka upright bagless that did little but "wind up" dog fur around the brush bearings! I spent more time unwinding Queenie's fur from the brush than I did vacuuming. This Hoover cannister found dirt in my bedroom carpet that the Eureka never even thought about. I did have to unwind some Queenie fur from the brush, but not like the other one. I didn't have to completely disassemble the darn thing in order to get the fur off. Queenie's fur is about 4" to 6" long, so there's no vacuum with a rotating brush that isn't "hampered" by her hair. I also have an old Hoover Spirit bagger cannister vacuum that is at least 20 years old and still works great. I use it for small jobs like cleaning my window A/C filters and electronic equipment. This is why I went with another (reliable) Hoover. The only drawback that I can see with this new Hoover is that the "stalk" or "wand" has plastic parts which makes the thing feel kind of flexible when vacuuming. My old cannister is a "tank", but nobody makes things as tough as they used to 20 years ago! The dirt cup fills up fast, but I think that once I get the dirt out of my carpet that the other vacuums were missing, it will seem to be a lot bigger! I bet I got 10 pounds of dirt & sand out of my carpet, and that's only about a 20 square foot section, as I've yet to move all the furniture! I think that this vacuum is well worth the money, and hopefully, with careful use, it will provide as many years of service as my other Hoover has. I also like the variable suction feature. I have a vacuum attachment called a "Pet-Vac" that is kind of a fur trap with a real long hose that has a rubber fingered fur shedding brush. I use it to de-fur my doggies. When I tried to use it before, my other vacuum had too much suction and caused the "filter ball" inside the Pet-Vac to stick to the top and stop the air flow. The middle setting on this new Hoover is purr-fect, as it provides sufficient suction for the Pet-Vac to function, but doesn't make the ball suck to the top and mess things up! I say "BUY ONE"!! SEE REVISED REVIEW ABOVE - THE POWER HEAD IS USELESS!!!
Customer Review: Another winner! Summary: 5 Stars
Wow, either the other vacuum was not very good or this one is terrific. It's picking up fibers from the carpets that the other cleaner obviously missed. I also like the fact that the stuff visibly swirls as you clean. A visual that makes the work of vacuuming more fun. Cleaning the filter is not so much fun, but when you see all the stuff this baby pulls from your carpets, you'll wonder how you ever did without it. Very good on my hardwood floors as well. Highly recommend!
Customer Review: At Last......... Summary: 5 Stars
At last I have found the vacuum I have been endlessly searching for!
This vacuum I must say passed my critical expectations.
I have owned several Hoover vacuums- They have served me well- But I have had some issues- I have dogs, kids, you name it... This is the first canister I have owned- I now have mostly hardwood and tile floors...
Excellent for bare floors- Quiet too.
It has different setting for suction- I am able to vacuum my dogs with the brush accessory on a low suction setting! It doesn't freak them out with it being so quiet.
No one ran out of the room or turned the TV volume up. :0)
I love it!!!!!
Customer Review: At the time I purchased this, a great value-and would buy again Summary: 4 Stars
When I moved out from my ex's with our daughter, I needed to get a new vacuum. I really wanted a canister that I could trundle behind me as I vacuumed rather than an upright that tended to topple when I used hose attachments for flat surfaces, and would store in more places as it was lower to the ground.
I got this vacuum in 2008 (it was less expensive then, only 180 on Amazon) based on the mostly positive reviews and the bagless technology.
So after over two years of use I think I'd like to write a review to reply to other buyers who were unhappy with their purchase.
PROS:
1. Sturdy. I really can't believe the reviewer who says that ANY of his/her plastic parts broke when the vacuum fell unless s(he) dropped it from a considerable height. I have to vacuum my co-op's vestibule every six weeks, and I can't count the times my vacuum has toppled down stairs, and while I cracked the plastic cover that covers the hose attachment devices (which is pretty flimsy to begin with), none of the other plastic pieces have EVER broken. I ABUSE this thing without thinking-never had a problem. They haven't even changed the model I'm using as of January 2011 on Amazon, so unless the company has started using *really* shoddy plastics (which the majority of positive reviews seems to reject the notion of), I doubt anyone will have any real issues with this thing holding together.
2. Convenient. The hose attachments travel with the vacuum. I don't need to haul things from one area of my living space to another. It has a low center of gravity and just hauling on the hose to bring the canister to me while I'm vacuuming sends it rolling over without it toppling from side to side. The handles are convenient and I don't have problems working my way up or down stairs.
3. Cleans carpets very well. It's no match for a *really* good upright (which would cost more than this vacuum anyway), but this thing picks up whatever I throw at it. The vestibule in my apartment gets all SORTS of things in it, and I've sucked up small rocks, pennies and other such trash in this thing without having to hand-feed the thing.
CONS:
1. Not so good at cleaning flat floors. The whole reason I got a canister is so that I'd have decent sucking power in my kitchen. Unless I use my edge tool, or get the angle *just right* with the floor cleaning tool, it has a hard time sucking things up. I think this is the fault of the tool design. The edge tool (with a small aperture) has tremendous sucking power, as does the bare hose with no attachment, but the designated floor cleaning attachment doesn't create a decent seal with the floor so the machine is sucking mostly air, but not what's on the floor. I think I will try to find second-hand attachments from other Hoovers that attach to this vacuum to see if I can get an improvement.
2. Weighty. It's not terribly heavy, but it's not light either. It can get tiresome holding this vacuum while going up stairs, but then again, there are just a lot of stairs in my apartment's vestible.
3. Bagless. If I could do it all over again, I'd go with a bag-utilizing version of this cleaner. Cleaning the rubbish container and the HEPA filter is a pain. I got an extra HEPA filter so that I can allow time for a thorough cleaning of the dirty one (which usually involves a toothbrush and lots of water), but I wish I had just gotten a bagged cleaner instead. Clean-up would be SO much easier, especially when I got all kinds of random things in there (with a three-year-old, EVERYTHING gets on the floor-baking soda is a real bugger in this thing), and I don't think I'd have to clean the HEPA filter as often.
4. Not the best canister out there. I grew up using old vacuums from estate sales that were originally priced at $500+ so I was somewhat disappointed in the performance of this vacuum. Recently my sister got a new, $600 vacuum, and that thing blows this Hoover out of the water. BUT, I can't complain considering the price I paid for this vacuum, and really, it has always filled my needs.
NEUTRAL:
1. Three power settings. Really? Why would you ever use less than full power? Maybe they could replace that function with a new, better designed floor tool.
